Abstract

Speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning through to the use of verbal and nonverbal symbols, in a variety of contexts. (Chaney, 1998:13) is the ability to produce a language and share ideas. This research explained about the deals with speaking skill in English as a Foreign Language at the San Jose High School during second semester 2021 in Bluefields, RACCS. This research used qualitative and descriptive methods. Twenty students were chosen as a sample por this study. In the process of collecting the data, the instruments used were observation check lists and interviews. The main objective of this study was to analyze factors that influence speaking skills in EFL, English speaking skill is one of the most difficult for learners in seventh grade, because this component of the language has many characteristics such as: pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, interaction that the students need to handle to express their ideas. The results obtained from this study showed that 70% of the interviewed students; mother tongue is Spanish and 30% of the students speak Creole English as their mother tongue. Some of the factors that are influencing their communication in English are the followings: they prefer to speak Spanish, they are shame or shy, and they do not speak English, and have poor pronunciation. The factors mentioned above have an impact on the ability of students speaking English as a foreign language; for which the conclusion found in this study shows that the cause of student’s problem in mastering English speaking skills as a Foreign Language, was the following: lack of confidence, poor vocabulary, shame, fear to make mistakes when speaking, anxiousness when teacher asks to speak up and shy to performer in front of class.
